Anhedonia

Loss of pleasure or interest in things you usually enjoy.

Anhedonia is the loss of pleasure or interest in things you normally enjoy. It is not quite sadness — the feeling is flatter than that. The music you love sounds like noise, and the friend you would usually want to see feels like an errand.

It is one of the two core features clinicians look for in a depressive episode, and it can appear before anyone would call the mood low. That is why it gets mistaken for laziness, burnout, or a relationship that has cooled.

It also moves, which makes it trackable. If you know roughly how much you normally enjoy things — your baseline — then a drop becomes something you can measure instead of something you argue about.
